Senior Counsel / Assistant General Counsel, TEGNA

TEGNA Inc.is recruiting for a Senior Counsel/Assistant General Counsel to join our Tysons, Virginia based legal team.

This position is based at our corporate headquarters at The Boro in Tysons, VA with a hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Company’s Vice President, Associate General Counsel and Secretary, the person filling this position will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements, including vendor agreements, technology solutions (traditional software licensing, SaaS services, hardware procurement, professional services engagements for IT development, etc.), content licensing and distribution, advertising and sponsorship, NDAs, and real estate leases. The position also will be responsible for assistance with a variety of compliance matters (including SEC, FCC, corporate governance and privacy) and may be called upon to support M&A activity as needed.

This position will work closely with other members of the legal team and will support both our corporate functional areas (procurement, IT, broadcast operations, finance, etc.) and corporate and local leadership across the organization. The position is perfect for a collaborative attorney who has had substantive exposure to a broad range of transactional and corporate matters. Prior in-house experience is a plus, but not required.

Requirements:

  • JD and admitted to practice in Virginia, or eligible to be admitted in Virginia as corporate counsel.
  • At least five years of relevant experience practicing in a law firm or as in-house counsel, with specific experience in drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements, including: software and technology, advertising/sponsorship transactions, content licensing, and services agreements.
  • Successful candidate will bring a variety of corporate, M&A, or similar transactional experience in addition to exposure to a wide range of corporate and compliance issues.
  • Knowledge and experience in privacy and data security is considered a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at any given time, with understanding of how to prioritize to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adept at working effectively with individuals at all levels and across all areas of the organization.
  • Creative, flexible, enthusiastic, proactive, resourceful, and roll-up-your-sleeves attitude and willingness to tackle projects large and small across the organization.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, including clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, negotiating skills, and strong legal drafting abilities.
