MLRC European Media Lawyers Conference

Continuing MLRC’s series of annual meetings that began in Paris and then Berlin, and after a successful first Amsterdam conference in 2022, we invite you to join us June 19th in Amsterdam for a full day of discussion and networking with colleagues from around Europe.

The conference brings together media lawyers from Europe and the United States to have greater ties and alliances with each other and to discuss approaches to greater protection for freedom of expression.

Misinformation in Wartime: Challenges in reporting about the war in Ukraine. Should the EU be commended for its sanctions ordering the blocking of Russian news sites? Will the European Media Freedom Act bolster independent media, or will it be counter-productive?

Update on efforts in the EU and Britain to protect journalists from abusive suits. With Pia Sarma, Editorial Legal Director, The Times (London); Charlie Holt, Greenpeace.

Lunch followed by program — AI demo and discussion of emerging journalism, legal and ethical issues. With Laurens Vreekamp, author Art of AI.

EU Media Regulatory Developments. It is almost impossible to keep up with them but we’ll try to do exactly that, including the DSA, and related stuff (AVMSD, CSAM, TCO and other funky anagrams).
