Cal Chapter Meeting: A Major Win for Newsgathering in the Ninth Circuit
Date: Friday, October 17 at Noon PT / 3pm ET
The 9th Circ. held in Garcia v. County of Alameda that a law barring spectators at “sideshow” street takeover events had to be enjoined because it likely violates the 1st Amendment as applied to reporters covering sideshows. It’s the court’s strongest decision in many years affirming the constitutional right of journalists to observe newsworthy events.
